Return to Assynt…and more!

I’m going fishing tomorrow. It’s perhaps long overdue, having just spent about 10 days in Scotland without once unsheathing my rod.  But to be fair this particular holiday, avec oiseaux, was never about the fishing, it was more about hillwalking and sightseeing etc.  It could be seen as a recce for future missions though – Skye was beautiful and I’ll be going back hopefully next year and will get the chance to wet a line.

Whilst on Skye we visited the Old Man of  Storr which you may recognize from Prometheus if you’ve been to see it (prequel to Alien..sort of)

The weather was pretty poor on the day in question so photography was tricky

We had better look when we bagged our first Munro, Bla Bheinn (or Blaven) also on Skye. Again, stunning location and we got great views all the way until we reached the summit at which point the clouds descended and naused things up somewhat because we were unable to see the main Cullin ridge.

We also spent a few nights back on the mainland in the familiar surroundings of Lochinver to meet up with Stu, Phil, Sally, Mr & Mrs B and a gaggle of dogs. This return to Assynt provided opportunity to do the easy climb up Stac Pollaidh…

…and the not so easy climb up Suilven – again!

The week was rounded of with a couple of nights at the also very familiar Red Squirrel/Clachaig combo and an exhilarating climb up Ben Nevis via the Carn Mor Dearg arete with the added excitement of some mountain rescue action right in front of us (don’t worry, no-one carked it or anything)
