This site is devoted to what is surely the most elegant and challenging forms of
angling around . . . pole fishing.
No, of course not, fly fishing is our bag and presumably it´s yours otherwise you wouldn´t be here.
Yorkshire has a multitude of fly fishing venues which cater for everyone who likes to flyfish. They range from
diminutive put and takes through to reservoirs, natural lakes and rivers.
You can fish for wild browns and
stocked rainbow trout or perhaps be a little more adventurous and target coarse species such as pike, chub
and carp. We hope to visit each and every one of them but it remains to be seen if we succeed!
Our main purpose is to provide an unbiased guide on places to flyfish in Yorkshire (although as you will see
we are already starting to feedback on locations outside of England´s biggest county). It´s true
that many commercial fisheries have their own website but they may not give a completely honest and objective
write–up which is exactly what we hope to provide. A fishery´s own website may have pictures
proudly displaying scenes of abundant flora and fauna but fail to show the gas works or the housing estate
behind the camera.
For each venue we visit we give a brief description, throw in some photos and let you know
how we got on. We also have an ever expanding section devoted to flytying, complete with simple
step–by–step illustrated guides.
Yorkshire fly fishing is the product of two local anglers with about 15 years experience of fly–fishing between them. We have neither the knowledge nor facial hair bestowed upon Charles Jardine, and a casting instructor would tear their hair out attempting to rectify our numerous faults. However, we hope this enables us to relate to the average fly angler – as you will see blanks are an ever present feature of Stu and Bob´s angling diaries!
